How to Get 1,000 Monthly Website Visits

Learn how to get more website visits with proven Squarespace SEO, Pinterest, and email strategies for your small business - plus how to check your traffic.

Traffic is one of the most important factors in how well your website performs. You can't book clients or sell your offers if you're not getting eyes on your site.

But traffic is also one of the most common problems I see when health and wellness practitioners come to me for web design support. Getting enough traffic to grow a profitable practice online is hard.

Quick stat: in HubSpot's latest traffic survey, every website they tracked was already pulling in 1,000+ visitors a month. If you're reading this thinking that number sounds like a lot, know you're not alone.

When I started my business, it took me well over a year of trial and error and consistent effort to finally hit 1,000 monthly visitors. (And today it’s normal for my monthly traffic to get as high as 8,000 visits/month.)

📈 …but it doesn't have to take you over a year to see 1,000 visits/month! In this post, I'm sharing everything you need to know about how to get more website visits -from checking your current traffic to driving it up, one channel at a time.

How many monthly visitors should a small business website get?

Website traffic varies depending on what your business is like. Size, model, and niche all play a factor in what determines a "good" monthly traffic number.

For health and wellness coaches, aiming for 1,000 monthly visitors is a great place to start — that's a lot of eyes on your website.

But you also need to consider the quality of that traffic - meaning, are these people your ideal clients? Are they actually going to book a call, or will they leave your site right away?

Just remember that while traffic is important, it's not the be-all end-all of your website's performance. Converting that traffic is just as essential — it doesn't matter if 1,000 people land on your site if they have no interest in working with you.

What Are Unique Monthly Visitors (and How Do You Find Yours)?

Unique monthly visitors are the estimated number of individual people who land on your site in a given month - counted once, no matter how many pages they click through or how many times they come back. It's different from pageviews (every page someone loads) and visits (each separate browsing session), which will almost always run higher.

This number matters because it's the one that tells you how many real, distinct people are finding your practice - not just how much clicking around is happening. If your pageviews are climbing but unique visitors are flat, that usually means the same people are exploring your site more, not that new potential clients are discovering you.

To find your unique monthly visitors, you don't need a separate tool - if you're on Squarespace, it's already built into your dashboard. Here's exactly where.

How to Check Your Website Traffic on Squarespace

Here's how to check your website traffic on Squarespace, step by step:

  1. Log into your Squarespace account and open your site.

  2. Click Analytics in the left-hand menu, then click Traffic.

  3. Set your date range - last 30 days gives you an easy monthly snapshot.

  4. Look at Unique Visitors. This is your real audience size - the number to check in on month over month.

Why isn't my website getting traffic?

One of the most common misconceptions I see around getting website traffic is that many practitioners think that when you click "publish" and launch your new site out into the world, you'll immediately start seeing visitors flooding in.

However, just because you have a website doesn't mean anyone knows it exists… you have to work to start driving in new traffic.

Again, this is why traffic and strategic design go hand-in-hand. You could have a beautiful, high-converting website, but without traffic, you won't book clients. On the flip side, you could have thousands of visitors to your site every month, but without a website strategized to convert, you'll never bring in any inquiries.

I know that working for your website traffic might not sound like the most glamorous entrepreneurial task, but your website is a marketing tool, and should be treated as such. Even though you've invested in launching a beautiful site designed to convert, that doesn't mean you can kick your feet back and forget about it. Your website should be maintained like a well-oiled machine. Consistent maintenance and promotion will get your traffic to that 1,000 visitor mark.

How to Increase Traffic to Your Website:
7 Ways That Actually Work

There is no one-size-fits-all method to drive your website traffic up. Your business is unique, and so is your marketing - so this can happen through several different avenues. I strongly recommend diversifying your marketing platforms so you're driving traffic through more than one place.

  1. SEO

SEO is the practice of optimizing your website to be found easily through search engine results — this is how potential clients find you on Google or other search engines. Check out "Squarespace's SEO Checklist" to make sure your site is optimized to be found.

  2. Drive traffic from Social Media

One way to increase your website traffic is through social media. Make sure you're sharing consistently on your chosen platform(s), whether that's Instagram, Facebook, or TikTok. Sharing consistent content builds a know-like-trust relationship with your audience, making them want to learn more about you and check out your website.

You'll also want to optimize your social media profile for website conversion. Make sure you include a link in your bio that goes directly to your website. I also recommend posting at least one post a week with a direct call to action that leads your audience back to your website - this can direct them to your blog, services, or booking page.

  3. Drive traffic from Email Marketing

Another great way to increase traffic to your website is through email marketing. Be sure you're sending valuable, content-rich emails that make your audience want to go to your website to learn more.

Just like with social media, be sure you're sharing content that drives them back to your website - through blogs, services, or your booking page. Don't forget to share a link directly to your site in the header or footer of every email so your audience can easily find your website, and include 1–3 CTAs directing them back to your website in every email.

  4. Drive traffic with Pinterest Marketing

Pinterest can be a powerful tool to drive traffic to your website - it's actually become my #1 source of traffic for my own site. The thing I personally love about Pinterest is that it's not a social media platform - it's technically a search engine, making it easy for your ideal clients to find you through visual content.

To get started with Pinterest marketing, get a basic understanding of SEO and keywords, and start by posting at least one Pin a day. Be sure to include links for each pin that direct traffic back to a corresponding blog post, podcast episode, or offer.

  5. Blog

Since your blog is likely already hosted on your website, here you're not focusing on driving traffic back to your site - you're optimizing your blog to attract more traffic in the first place…. and this actually goes right back to SEO. By ensuring your blog is optimized to be found through by your ideal clients through search engines (SEO), you’ll give yourself more opportunities to drive traffic to your site in this way

  6. Podcast or Youtube

Since your podcast or YouTube channel is hosted off of your website, be sure you're using CTAs in each episode to drive traffic back to your site. You can also add links to your website in the show notes for listeners to connect with you there.

  7. Guest Features and Collaborations

Guest posting, podcast interviews, and collaborations with other wellness practitioners put you in front of an audience that already trusts the person introducing you - and every mention should link straight back to your site.

Q: How many monthly visitors is good for a small business website?
A: For most health and wellness coaches, 1,000 monthly visitors is a strong early benchmark. Traffic quality matters as much as quantity - visitors who match your ideal client are worth more than a bigger number of mismatched ones.

Q: What's the difference between visits, pageviews, and unique visitors?
A: Pageviews count every page load. Visits count each browsing session. Unique visitors count each individual person once per time period - it's the number that reflects your real audience size.

Q: How do I check my website traffic on Squarespace?
A: Go to Analytics > Traffic in your Squarespace dashboard, set your date range, and check Unique Visitors, Visits, and Pageviews. Unique Visitors is the one to track month over month.

Q: How long does it take to increase traffic to a new website?
A: It depends on the channel and your consistency. SEO and Pinterest tend to compound over 6–12 months, while social media and email can drive visits faster but need ongoing effort to sustain.

Q: What's the fastest way to get more website visits?
A: Pinterest and social media tend to show results fastest since they're not waiting on search engines to index you. SEO takes longer to build but keeps working long after you've stopped actively promoting a post.
